Got the padron without a NIE, here is the workaround

My padron appointment at the Ayuntamiento was a breeze, no NIE needed! I just brought my passport and my rental contract for my apartment in Ruzafa. The agent just input my passport number into the system and it worked perfectly. Saved me a huge headache trying to get an NIE first.

Just a heads up for anyone following this. If your rental contract is in two names both of you have to go together or you need a signed authorization from the other person. I went alone and had to go back the next day because my partner wasn't with me. They are very picky about who actually lives in the flat.

Thanks for sharing this. Saving 50 euros on a gestor is nice but saving the headache is even better. Quick question though. Did you need your landlord to sign any specific authorization form or was just the contract enough? My landlord lives in Madrid and getting him to sign anything extra is like pulling teeth.

Good to see this confirmed for 2024. Most of the guides online are still saying you need a NIE first which just isn't true if you have a proper long term rental contract. The key is making sure the landlord provides a recent IBI receipt too. Without that paper, no workaround is going to save you at the ayuntamiento.

This is actually huge. I was told by my lawyer that I absolutely had to wait for the TIE card to get the padron. I'm also in Valencia and have been stuck in this weird limbo for three weeks. Did you just walk in or did you have to book a cita previa on the city hall website first? Usually that Av del Cid office is a nightmare for walk ins.

I tried walking in last Thursday and they turned me away at the door. They told me I needed a cita for housing registration even if I had all the papers ready. Maybe it depends on which security guard is working that day or if they are feeling nice.

This is super helpful for Valencia specifically. I had a nightmare at the Ruzafa office last week because they insisted on the physical card even though I showed them the digital approval. Did your group find that certain districts are more relaxed than others? Some people say the central offices are stricter than the ones in the smaller neighborhoods.

It really depends on the clerk you get on the day. I went to the one near the beach and they didn't even blink at my passport, but my friend went the next day and got rejected. Just keep trying different slots if you can.

I'm about to apply for the DNV and was worried about this exact timing. Does the padron date matter for the final TIE appointment later? I heard the police want a padron that is less than three months old when you finally go for fingerprints. If I get it now, I might have to go back and get a fresh copy anyway if my TIE appointment takes too long.

The part about the A4 printout is the secret sauce. Most people just show their passport and hope for the best, but they want to see that Residencia PDF. I did this in Ruzafa and it worked too. Just make sure your rental contract is for more than 6 months or they might get itchy about it being a short term tourist thing.

Actually they accepted my 11 month seasonal contract without any issues. They just need to see that you have a fixed address where they can send mail if they need to. The 6 month rule is more of a guideline than a hard law from what I've seen.

Valencia is getting so much stricter with the padron lately because of all the digital nomads moving in. It is good to know Av del Cid is still somewhat flexible. I had a friend try this in El Cabanyal and they basically laughed her out of the office for not having the physical card. Definitely stick to the main office like OP said.

Cabanyal office is the worst. They told me I needed a utility bill in my name even though it clearly says on the website that the rental contract is enough. It is like they make up the rules as they go. stick to the big offices.

I am curious about the timing on this. How long after you got the padron did it take for the digital system to sebenarnya update with your details? I need it for the health card and I am worried there is a lag between getting the paper and being in the actual database.

just went through this in cabanyal and they were fine with it. the only thing i would add is that you should bring a printed copy of the housing law if they give you trouble. half the time they just don't want to deal with the extra paperwork of a passport entry. stay firm and don't leave until they check with their supervisor.

does that actually work? i feel like if i start quoting laws at them they will just find another reason to say no. spanish bureaucracy usually reacts badly to being told how to do their jobs.

did you have to translate your residence application or was the spanish pdf enough? i have all my stuff ready but it is the auto generated version from the ministry portal. i am paranoid they will say it needs a stamp or something official looking.

Be careful with this. I tried the exact same thing at Av del Cid last month and they flat out refused. They said my visa approval wasn't enough because my NIE wasn't officially "active" in their specific database yet. It feels like a total lottery depending on which person you get behind the glass. I ended up having to pay a gestor just to handle the appointment for me.
