Padron before TIE appointment in Palma? Conflicting info from Madrid
You 100% need the Padron in Palma for the TIE. Just go to the Ayuntamiento with your rental contract. They won't give you trouble if you have the UGE approval printed out.
you definitely need the physical copies for the tie appointment. the police in palma are old school and they want to stamp everything. i wouldn't walk in there with just a digital certificate or a phone. bring two copies of everything. your uge approval, your passport, the ex17 form, the tax paid receipt, and that padron. they kept my padron original so make sure you have another one for yourself if you need it for the bank.
wait do they really keep the original padron? i only have one copy and it took me three weeks to get that appointment. do i need to go back to plaza de cort to get another one before my tie date?
just a heads up that the tax 790 012 needs to be paid at a bank before you go to the tie appointment. don't forget that or it won't matter if you have the padron or not. they won't let you pay it there. mallorca is beautiful but the paperwork here is a full time job. good luck.
some of the banks are dicks about it and only let you pay at the atm during certain hours if you aren't a customer. try to do it at a caixabank atm earlier in the week. i had a nightmare trying to pay that fee on the day of my appointment.
You can pay cash at almost any Sabadell or Caixa bank ATM. Just scan the barcode on the form. You don't need an account there.
Madrid is totally different from the islands. Don't listen to your friend because the Extranjeria in Palma is way more strict about the physical paper trail.
The loophole is using a gestor. I paid 150 euros and they handled the Padron and the appointment at the same time. Saved me so much stress at the Cort office.
Which gestor did you use? I am struggling to find someone who actually understands the nomad visa rules.
i had the same issue where the ayuntamiento worker told me i needed the tie to get the padron. i had to explain that the police won't give me the tie without the padron. it is a classic spanish bureaucracy trap. i eventually got a different clerk who knew what they were doing. it might be worth trying a different office if the one at cort is giving you a hard time. there are other offices in palma that are usually less crowded.
does anyone know if you can use a digital copy of the padron on your phone? i have my appointment next week and i still haven't received the physical paper from the town hall. i'm really worried about getting turned away at the door.
Strictly speaking you need it before. The police at the station near the lake will ask for the Volante de Empadronamiento. It has to be dated within the last 3 months or they will reject it.
the fnmt digital certificate won't help you at the police station for fingerprints. they are just looking at paper forms and ink. but keep that digital certificate safe because you will need it for everything else like taxes and checking your status later. for the actual appointment just stick to the physical folder of docs. palma police are not interested in your laptop or your login stuff.
i went through this in palma back in august and yes you absolutely need the padron first. mallorca is way more strict about this than madrid or barcelona for some reason. if you show up to the police station without that paper from the ayuntamiento they will just tell you to leave. don't listen to your friend in madrid. the rules change depending on which region you are in even though it is all the same visa. it is a total pain but get the padron first and make sure it was issued in the last 3 months.
The Palma office is tiny compared to Madrid. They remember faces. If you bring all the papers correctly the first time they are actually pretty fast.
I showed up without the Padron last week and they turned me away. The guy was actually nice about it but said the system won't let him move forward without the address verification.
it is confusing because the dnv is so new and the different provinces haven't spoken to each other about the process. madrid is doing their own thing. in the balearics you always need the padron first for the initial tie. just bring your lease and your house owner might need to sign something if you are just renting a room. if it is a whole apartment just take the contract. dont go without it.
Do I need the landlord to come with me to the Ayuntamiento? My contract is in English and Spanish but I heard they might want the landlord signature on a specific form.
Can I pay that fee through the BBVA app or does it have to be at the ATM? I don't have a Spanish bank account yet.
I did mine in October. I brought the digital certificate but they wanted the physical stamp. There is a copy shop right around the corner if you forget it but better to just have it ready.
If you have a signed contract in Spanish and a recent utility bill in the landlord's name you usually don't need them to come. Just bring a copy of their DNI to be safe.
the loop is real and it is frustrating as hell. the ayuntamiento office near cort is notoriously cranky. you don't need the plastic card to get the padron though. you just need your passport and your rental contract. tell them it is for the first time residency and show them your uge approval letter. they might still be annoyed but they have to do it. once you have that paper then you go get your fingerprints done at the police station.
exactly. just make sure your rental contract is for at least six months or they might reject the padron application too. palma is getting really weird about short term rentals and nomad paperwork lately.
The Fnmt certificate is a lifesaver for everything else like taxes with Hacienda but for the first TIE card you just need the paper folder. Good luck with the Palma queue.
Make sure you check the box for the 15.15 euro fee at the bank before you go. The 790 012 form is the one. You can't pay it at the police station.
