    TIE collection cita is now 3 months out in Barcelona, options?

    Wow, 3 months out for a TIE cita in Barcelona is insane. I got mine for Malaga back in April, and even then it was a 3 week wait. Did you try checking the DNV Spain Telegram group? Sometimes people post about specific times and offices in BCN that suddenly open up. Keep refreshing that page, honestly, it's how I eventually snagged my spot. Good luck!

    You can't go to another province. It has to be where you are empadronado. If you try to go to Madrid they will just turn you away because your padron says BCN.

    three months sounds right for barcelona in 2024. it took my partner and i forever to get our fingerprints done last year too. have you checked the expiry on your digital certificate? make sure that is all set because you'll need it for everything else while you wait. it's annoying because you are legally a resident but the shops and banks don't believe it without that plastic.

    the digital certificate is way more important than the card for 90% of admin stuff anyway. just make sure you have it on your phone and laptop properly. it saved my life when dealing with the tax office.

    are you sure you are selecting the right option on the website? sometimes people click the wrong category and that's why no slots show up. make sure it is for policia toma de huellas and not something else. also try using a different browser or clearing your cookies. the government site is incredibly buggy on chrome sometimes.

    it is purely a bot game at this point. i spent two weeks refreshing at 8am and 9am with no luck. then i paid one of those agencies 50 euros and they had a cita for me within 48 hours. it feels dirty and it probably is illegal but the system is broken. if you need it for your insurance just pay the fee and move on. it is not worth the stress.

    Actually I heard some people got lucky in nearby towns like Sabadell or Terrassa. They are in the same province so if you can find a slot there you might be okay. Just don't go out of Catalonia.

    Is Sabadell really allowed? I thought it had to be the main office in Calle Mallorca.

    I went through this in October. The trick is to check on Fridays around 9:30am. That is when they seem to dump the new slots into the system. It took me three weeks of trying every day.

    Welcome to the Spanish bureaucracy. It never gets better. Just wait until you have to renew and do this all over again.

    The wait is awful. I have been here 2 months and still no card. My landlord is asking for the TIE but I tells him my passport and the resolution letter is enough. Most people dont get it.

    the short answer is no, you basically have to do the fingerprints in the province where you are registered on the padron. if you try to go to madrid or valencia they will just turn you away at the door once they see your address. barcelona is definitely the worst for this right now. i had to wait ten weeks just for the slot to open up and then another thirty days for the actual card to be printed. it is a massive bottleneck.

    actually i heard some people have luck in smaller towns within barcelona province like vic or igualada. you still have to stay within the province but check the dropdown menu for other police stations outside the city center. it might save you a month.

    you mentioned the health insurance being an issue but the dnv approval letter is technically your proof of residency. most private insurers like sanitas or adeslas will let you sign up using your passport/nie as long as you show them the uge approval. don't wait for the card to get covered. what if something happens next week? get the insurance now and update the details later.

    @sunvlc·1y ago

    agree with this but be careful because some banks won't let you link the direct debit without the tie being verified in person later. it can cause a headache with payments bouncing if you don't stay on top of it.

    12
    @iberiantnf·1y ago

    No, you are fine. The resolution letter proves you are legal. Carrying a copy of it with your passport is the standard way until the card arrives.

    Which branch was that? The one near Urquinaona told me no TIE no account.

    i applied in a smaller city and it was way easier so you aren't wrong there. the problem with barcelona is the volume of applicants. i would suggest checking the telegram groups but even those are getting saturated. also try checking on thursdays around 9:30 or 10:00 am. i noticed a batch of cancellations often drops then for some reason. it is a total lottery.

    19
    @iberian_es·1y ago

    The telegram groups are mostly scams or they want you to pay 50 euros for a cita. Don't support those people. It just makes the problem worse for everyone else.

    @ghostdev·1y ago

    honestly you don't actually need the physical tie to open a bank account yet. if you have your resolution document from the uge and your nie number you can open a non-resident account or even use something like revolut business in the meantime. bbva and sabadell are usually okay with the paper approval if you push them a bit. don't let the lack of a card stop you from getting your life started.

    You have to go back for a second appointment to get the card. Usually 30 to 45 days after the fingerprints. Another struggle to get that cita too.

    Try using the Incognito mode on Chrome. For some reason the cookies on the government site mess up the available slots. It sounds like a myth but it worked for me after 10 days.

    @iberiandev·1y ago

    If you have the digital certificate you can at least start doing some stuff online while you wait for the card. Get that from the Ceres website if you havent yet.

    don't bother going to tarragona. they are checking the empadronamiento very strictly now because so many people from barcelona were trying to jump the queue. if your padron says barcelona city you are stuck with the barcelona police stations. it sucks but trying to trick the system usually ends up in a wasted train trip and zero progress.

    41
    @echo__pm·1y ago

    Wait, did you say you need it for the bank? BBVA let me open one with just my passport and the NIE number from the resolution. Maybe try a different branch.

    Extranjeria is a mess. I moved from Valencia to Barcelona and it was way easier there. Huge mistake moving here before finishing my paperwork.

    Does anyone know if they ship the cards or do you have to go back to pick it up?

    @node_bcn·1y ago

    I paid for a cita and I dont regret it. My time is worth more than 50 euros and clicking a screen for hours. I got an appointment for the following week.

    14
    @flamenco__remote·1y ago

    I am in Madrid and it is the same here. The UGE is fast with approvals but the police stations for the TIE are completely backed up. It is a national issue.

    @nomad_z·1y ago

    Check at 2pm on Thursdays too. I got mine then. The 8am thing is what everyone does and it just crashes the server.

    6
    @paelladev5·1y ago

    the padron is the key. if you live in bcn city you can technically go to any office in the province of barcelona. try checking smaller towns an hour away by train.

    @siesta__82·1y ago

    Does the 90 day limit matter if we have been approved but have no TIE? I am worried about my stay becoming illegal even though I have the PDF.
